Council Member Biography: David Cooke
David has been involved in local club athletics since joining Yeovil Olympiads (YOAC) in 1971. He was club captain for several years. Running the 400 metres, he won South-West Inter-Counties on three occasions in the 1970s, and was captain of athletics at Bristol University in that period. After a period of road running in Yorkshire during the 1980s, where he was working at the time, he returned to the South-West in 1990. Rejoining YOAC, he achieved some success at the Masters level, achieving fifth place at the 2001 World Championships over 400 metres. From the early nineties, he joined the committee of the Somerset County Athletic Association, and became honorary Secretary of the Association in 2000, still holding that post. He took over the administration of the County website in 2002. He became Championship Secretary for track and field matters in 2004. He was divisional secretary for the South West Athletics League for a number of years
