South-West Championships

South-West Cross-Country Championships


The 2025-2026 South-West Individual, Inter-Club and Inter-County Cross-Country Championships will be held at RNAS Merryfield on Saturday 3rd January 2026.



As a result of a security scare in 2024, the Ministry of Defence applied certain extra restrictions which are likely to apply to any future events at the venue:

  • All attendees (competitors, officials, spectators) will need to register their attendance in advance
  •  
  • The venue will not open before 9.00am. Please time your journey so that you do not enter the village of Ilton before that time.

Despite the lack of sea nearby, RNAS Merryfield and the nearby RNAS Yeovilton are classed as "HMS Heron" (in naval terms, a "Stone Frigate").


In recent seasons, the first two finishers in each of the relevant races (U13 / U15 / U17; both genders) received automatic qualification for the South-West team for the next London Mini Marathon.

South-West Indoor T&F Championships

The South-West has many great features: historic buildings, glorious scenery, impressive beaches, etc. --- but no 200m Indoor Track. In recent seasons, Welsh Athletics Ltd. has kindly agreed to incorporate the SW Indoor Championships in their events at the National Indoor Athletics Arena in Cardiff.

The dates for the 2025-26 Indoor season are:

  • U20/Senior athletes who are not Welsh-qualified will be accepted into the respective Welsh Indoor Championships meeting (Seniors: subject to entry standards).

    • Under-20s: Weekend of 1st/2nd February

Note: the South-West medals at these events are decided by comparing performances of those who declared themselves as eligible for South-West competition. The organisers cannot simply look at club names (e.g. an athlete may have recently moved to the South-West and have not yet established a residential qualification)

The 2025 Championships were held on Sunday 20th July, at Exeter. Results can be found here.

South-West Road Relays Championships
The 2023 South-West Road Relay Championships were held on the evening of Friday 11th August, at Paignton, incorporated in the South Devon AC Road Relays.

South-West Championships Results:

The 2022 and 2024 South-West Road Relays Championships did not take place because of the lack of a suitable host event.

South-West Road Running Championships

There will be no Road Running Championships in 2025.


The South-West Inter-Counties Road Running Championships for 2024 were:

Regional and Area Championships

Please Note: Entry in a South-West Championships (a Regional Championship) in any discipline does not prevent an athlete taking part in Midland or Southern Championships events (which are Area Championships).


Athletes or teams from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire may opt either for Midland Counties AA or South of England AA competitions, but may not compete in both in the same competition year.
