County Cross-Country Teams

  • South-West Cross-Country Championships
    •
    • The 2020-21 Championships will take place on Sunday 3rd January 2021, at Aldon Hill, Yeovil, again.

Regarding Covid-19: The organisers have taken note of the recent EA Guidance on Cross-Country Competition, and feel sure that they will be able to provide a meeting in accordance with the guidance. It may look rather different from what people have seen in previous seasons, though.

The image below is not taken from a recent race:

    •
    • Inter-Club competition: U13/15/17: 4 to score. Senior Men (U20/Masters eligible): 5 to score. Senior Women (U20/Masters eligible): 4 to score.
    •
    • Inter-County Competition: The seven South-West counties compete against each other. U13/U15/U17/U20: 4 to score. SW/SM: 6 to score. The Avon teams will be selected from those who submit individual entries: to judge by last season, we should be able to give most Avon athletes a team place.

    • Who competes? U13/U15/U17/U20/Senior athletes for each gender
    • (there were also Development races for Under-11's, although there was no County team involvement)
    •
    • The first South-West athlete home in each of the U13/U15/U17 races will (subject to confirmation in reasonable time) be granted a place in the South-West team for the London Mini-Marathon. The remaining places will be decided on the basis of applications made on This Form: please note that the selectors do not come looking for you, or send you reminders.
  • UK CAU Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships
    •
    • Who enters: a joint team with the Somerset AA
    •
    • When? The 2019 event will be held on Saturday 9th March, at Prestwold Park near Loughborough again.

    •
    • Who Competes? U13/U15/U17/U20/Senior athletes for each gender

      • "Under-20's" for this competition are those athletes who have their 18th or 19th birthday during the year of the competition. So athletes born between 1st September and 31st December, who may compete as Under-20's at County, South-West, Midlands or National level, could not compete as Under-20s in this event but could be considered for selection for the Senior team.
      •
      • NOTE: The Senior Men's and Senior Women's races will both be over 10km.
    •
    • Selection: The combined County may nominate 12 athletes for each race, with 8 allowed to run on the day and 4 to score (Senior Men / Women: 15 nominations, 9 to run, 6 to score). In 2018, the nominations and eventual selections were agreed by e-mail dialogue between representatives of the two Counties' regularly active and EA-registered Cross-Country clubs.

Organising a major Cross-Country meeting? That's simple, you just shove up some stakes and marker tape and recruit a few marshals, don't you? Er, not quite. Here is a link to the Tender Document for those who might have wanted to stage the 2014 South-West Cross-Country Championships.
