County Track and Field Teams

County Track and Field Teams
  •
  • South-West Inter-Counties T&F Championships
    •
    • For 2026, the competition will be for U14/U16/U18/U20/Senior athletes for each gender. Entries are now open, at South-West Entries Website.

      • The organisers are unsure how the change of Age Groups, and the date clashes with other fixtures, will affect competitor turnout. So they have eased entry standards, but put a limit on the number of athletes per event per age/gender category (16 for Track, 8 for Field). So don't hang back too long with submitting entries.
      •
      • Avon considers all those who validly enter as Avon athletes to be Avon team members (other Counties may act differently).
      •
      • Competitor vests: if athletes have Team Avon vests, by all means wear these. Otherwise, they should wear their Club vest.
      •
      • On all SW Championships events, winter and summer, the entry closing dates are strictly enforced.

  • UK CAU Inter-Counties Track and Field Championships
    •
    • This annual competition used to attract several thousand spectators to the now-demolished White City Stadium to watch Senior Inter-County competition (well, Men's competition only). It later moved around various venues and went dual-gender, incorporated in various other events. After fading out in recent seasons, it was revived in 2024 as part of the EA Senior / Under 23s / Under 20s Championships. The UK CAU aspect of the 2025 event did not go ahead (significant health issues for two leading organisers), although the EA Championships were held at Birmingham as scheduled, on the weekend of 25th/26th/27th July.
    •
    • Arrangements: Avon will enter a joint team with the Somerset AA
    •
    • Who Competes? Any potential team member needed to qualify for the appropriate age group in the Championships. From this, Avon & Somerset will generate a team list from those who had already submitted entries.

In 2024, the combined team finished fourth (Women 3rd, Men 6th). Okay, only 13 County teams (plus the UK Armed Forces) entered, (there are 36 Counties listed on the EA website's 'UK CAU' page, plus four Welsh Regions and four Scottish Regions, who could potentially enter). But it's still a fine achievement, and our thanks go out to our (probably unknowing) team members.
